    What is membership recruitment?

     

    - membership in a sorority is voluntary and is the result of a mutual selection by the members of that sorority


    - Formal recruitment is a time set aside for sorority members and potential new sorority members to become better acquainted. Potential new members are given the chance to meet all six sororities and to determine which organization is the best fit for them. At RIT the formal recruitment process occurs during the second week of classes in fall quarter. For more information of formal recruitment, please visit the recruitment page.


    - Continuous open recruitment (or informal recruitment) also occurs throughout the school year. A potential new member may be extended an invitation of membership by any chapter any time through out the school year.     Is it expensive to join?

     

    - Each sorority has certain fixed expenses including dues, new member fees and housing fees. Because these fees depend on several factors and can change over time it is recommended that you contact individual chapters for an updated list of fees and dues.


    What about the use of alcohol, controlled substances and other inappropriate behavior?

     

    - The College Panhellenic Council expects its members to obey all local, state, and federal laws and to abide by the fraternity’s policies, guidelines, and standards. Each organization allocates significant resources to educate its members about alcohol and substance abuse.


    - All chapters are expected to provide a safe environment for their members. If an incident occurs where policies are violated, the organization, the CPC and RIT all may intervene and take disciplinary action.


    -additionally, both the CPC and individual organizations often host programs that address the high-risk behaviors prevalent on most campuses today


    How can membership help my daughter succeed academically?

     

    - The College Panhellenic Council expects every sorority members to strive to fulfill her academic potential. As a commitment to academic achievement, sororities offer several forms of support to assist members- from study resources to quiet study areas. When a member falls below the chapter’s required grade point average, additional study program are developed to improve her academic performance.


    - CPC acknowledges improved academics and high scholastic achievement through their annual rewards ceremony Sweet Rewards. Additionally, some chapters offer their own academic scholarships and rewards. For more information please visit the scholarship page.

     

    What other benefits are there to membership?

     

    - Membership in a sorority is a living and learning experience for women with shared values and objectives. Chapter members develop a special bond of sisterhood. These friendships last beyond the college years and are nurtured by alumnae activities and networking programs that provide opportunities for continued camaraderie, service, and personal development.


    - Being involved in a sorority will also offer your daughter the opportunity to become more involved with important philanthropic endeavors and community service events.


    - Most importantly your daughter will have numerous opportunities to take on leadership roles and to learn valuable leadership skills that will continue to serve her long after she leaves the RIT community.
